LSIs return home, guv gives warm welcome

TUBOD, LANAO DEL NORTE (13 July 2020) - 120 Locally Stranded Individuals (LSIs) from Luzon have been successfully expatriated by the Provincial Government of Lanao del Norte through the Balik Lanorte Program of Governor Imelda ‘Angging’ Quibranza-Dimaporo.


The residents were received by Balik Lanorte buses at Labo Domestic Airport in Ozamiz City with the members of the Incident Management Team. Two of the LSIs are from Ozamiz City and Zamboanga Sibugay who availed of the said program.


Dimaporo organized a simple welcome ceremony for the 118 returning residents at the Governor Arsenio A. Quibranza Provincial Government Center in Pigcaragan on Sunday.


The lady governor warmly received the LSIs who all flew in via a sweeper flight of the Philippine Airlines organized and sponsored by the Provincial Government of Lanao del Norte with the help of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.


The day before their scheduled flight, the LSIs went through mandatory rapid test facilitated by the Philippine Army at the Gymnasium of the Armed Forces of the Philippines in Fort Bonifacio and provided accommodation to stay for the night and shuttled them on the next day to the domestic airport for the flight.


The returnees were taken by the respective LGU disaster risk reduction teams of Linamon, Sultan Naga Dimaporo, Lala, Baroy, Tubod, Kolambugan, Maigo, Kapatagan, Balo-i, Sapad, and Bacolod, to undergo the 14-day quarantine period in their respective Municipal or Barangay Quarantine Facilities.


In return, the LSIs expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the governor for creating the Balik Lanorte Program, an initiative that brings hope to stranded residents of Lanao del Norte longing to return to the province and be with their families.


The Provincial Government of Lanao del Norte continues to address concerns of residents who are yet to return to the province.


Dimaporo thanked Lt. Gen. Gilbert Gapay, the Commanding General of the Philippine Army for accommodating the request of the Provincial Government of Lanao del Norte through the 2nd Mechanized Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Facundo O. Palafox IV, and with the assistance of Col. Alex Musngi, the AFP Operations Officer.


The Provincial Chief Executive also extended her appreciation to the Provincial Government of Misamis Occidental and the City Government of Ozamiz for their active cooperation, as well as the Office of Ozamiz CAAP, the Ozamiz City Airport Police, Daima Shipping Lines, Rural Transit Mindanao Incorporated, Philippine Airlines, and the Municipal Governments for their assistance.
