Army strengthens support to communities amid pandemic in Lanao del Norte
ILIGAN CITY (25 July 2020) — The Philippine Army continues to provide support to COVID-19 affected communities in the province of Lanao del Norte responding to calls for support from local government units through troops augmentation as cases continue to rise in the area.
The 43rd Mechanized Infantry Company under the 4th Mechanized Battalion deployed military personnel to augment local Philippine National Police (PNP) and barangay patrol forces in designated checkpoints. The area of responsibility of the company covers the municipalities of Linamon, Kauswagan, Munai and Poona Piagapo.
According to 2Lt. Rinze Marrion Eviota, Executive Officer of the 43rd Mechanized Infantry Company, in addition to being deployed at these checkpoints, the Army also addresses those seeking immediate assistance from them, including escort and delivery of locally stranded individuals (LSIs), COVID-19 patients, and even communities in need of security forces.
Meanwhile, Eviota outlined the massive work of the Army to assist communities and help ensure that the virus does not massively spread and that populations are protected. Earlier in June, Army Commanding General, Lt. Gen. Gilbert Gapay, had likewise committed the support of the Army Reserve Command (Arescom) to ensure massive support during the ongoing pandemic.
In his visit to the Arescom headquarters in Cavite, Gapay acknowledged the unit’s critical role in nation-building.
“Transitioning to the new normal, we shall also preserve and sustain the capabilities of the Force through aggressive Covid-19 information campaign, responsive health-related programs, and security and logistics support to various government programs,” said Gapay.
